After two difficult years as the editor of the Brazilian Journal of Pain (BrJP), my administration has come to an end, not without the certainty of having fulfilled my duty, even though it was not possible do develop all that was intended due to the pandemic, which had spread during this period.

My task ends with the certainty of having carried out the work entrusted to me by the members of the Brazilian Society for the Study of Pain (SBED), with good memories, with no nostalgia or frustrations, because I always did my best and acted with transparency, determination and responsibility, directing BrJP at a pace compatible with the pandemic, always meeting the strict deadlines, without giving up on quality and publishing the best articles from the submitted works, which were in reduced numbers due to Covid.

Despite the setbacks, it was possible to maintain the indexing through LILACS and Scielo, to implement the Ahead of Print (AOP) publications, and to adapt the Editorial Board to what is stipulated in the SBED Statute.

The ahead of print or AOP modality was applied with the objective of adapting the journal for indexing in new platforms, for this type of publication allows the fast dissemination of published articles, which can be accessed more quickly by the scientific community, increasing the exposure time of the articles and facilitating citations by other authors, being recommended for print and online journals that wish to continue using sequential pagination of articles, as is the case of BrJP.

Articles published in AOP are included in the BrJP issues maintaining the title, authors and DOI number of the article published in AOP, but with the information of volume, issue number, pagination and date.

Another change introduced was the adjustment of the Editorial Board, of which the Coeditors are now a part of. The Coeditors assume part of the Editor’s tasks, monitoring the review of articles and deciding with the Editor whether each article should be accepted for publishing or not.

Moreover, this adaptation allows the Coeditors the freedom to invite professionals with expertise in several areas of health to perform the difficult task of reading and carefully evaluating the texts submitted by the authors, that is, to act as the reviewers of BrJP.

The new Editor will certainly be able to further develop the projects of new indexations because the difficulties that we all went through in these two years hindered the plans to advance the internationalization of BrJP and to index the journal in Pubmed Central, a goal that was not possible to achieve.

I would like to conclude by thanking the Authors who submitted their works, the SBED Board of Directors for its support and encouragement, the Editorial Board for its agility in evaluating the articles, and the Editorial Coordination for the excellent work in the compliance and layout of articles and journals.

Após dois difíceis anos de atividade como editor do Brazilian Journal of Pain (BrJP), encerro minha gestão com a certeza de ter cumprido o dever, embora não tenha conseguido avançar o quanto gostaria devido à pandemia, que grassou neste período.

Finalizo a gestão com a certeza de ter desempenhado a tarefa que me foi confiada pelos associados da Sociedade Brasileira para o Estudo da Dor (SBED), com boas lembranças, sem nostalgia, sem frustração, porque sempre procurei dar o máximo, agindo sempre com transparência, determinação e responsabilidade, dirigindo o BrJP em ritmo compatível com a pandemia, sempre cumprindo os rígidos prazos, sem prescindir da qualidade, publicando os melhores artigos dentre o número de submissões, que acabou sendo reduzido por causa da Covid.

Apesar dos contratempos, foi possível manter a indexação pela LILACS e Scielo, implantar a publicação em Ahead of Print (AOP) e adequar o Conselho Editorial ao que estipula o Estatuto da SBED.

A modalidade de publicação avançada de artigos ou AOP foi instituída com o objetivo de adequar o periódico para a indexação em novas plataformas, pois esse tipo de publicação permite a rápida divulgação dos artigos publicados, que podem ser acessados mais rapidamente pela comunidade científica, aumentando o tempo de exposição dos artigos e facilitando a citação por outros autores, sendo recomendado para periódicos de publicação em versão impressa e online que desejam continuar utilizando paginação sequencial dos artigos, como é o caso do BrJP.

Os artigos publicados em AOP são incluídos nos números do BrJP mantendo o título, os autores e o número de DOI do artigo publicado em AOP, porém com as informações de volume, número do fascículo, paginação e data.

Outra alteração introduzida foi a adequação do Conselho Editorial, que passou a ser constituído pelo Editor e os Coeditores, os quais assumem parte das tarefas do Editor, acompanhando a revisão dos artigos e opinando junto ao Editor sobre a aceitação ou não do artigo para publicação.

Ademais, essa adequação possibilita aos Coeditores a liberdade de convidar profissionais com expertise das mais variadas áreas da saúde para desempenhar a árdua tarefa de ler e avaliar com cuidado e critério os textos submetidos pelos autores, ou seja, atuarem como revisores do BrJP.

Certamente a nova Editora poderá dar continuidade aos projetos de novas indexações, pois as dificuldades que todos passamos nestes dois anos coibiram os planos de avançar com a internacionalização do BrJP e indexar o periódico no Pubmed Central, meta que não foi possível alcançar.

Finalizo agradecendo aos Autores que submeteram seus trabalhos, a Diretoria da SBED pelo apoio e estímulo, ao Corpo Editorial pela agilidade nas avaliações dos artigos, a Coordenação Editorial pelo excelente trabalho na adequação e diagramação dos artigos e das revistas.
